New and Upcoming

New York Daily News cover with Donald Trump

Midway, my newest short play, is premiering in San Diego October 21. Thanks to the folks at the North Park Playwrights Festival for selecting it.

Proud to be blogging for Religious Socialism. Agape and Solidarity – in my view they’re the same thing.

The Shakespeares, my one-act about the Bard in retirement, has been published by the wonderful people at Eldridge. Here’s the play’s website.

Essay in the Hartford Courant about why Catholics should say, “Get Thee Behind Me, Trump.”

A short story I’ve always been extra fond of, “Mercy’s Dog,” is going to be published in a Main Street Rag anthology of ghost stories. You can pre-order Polterguests for half price!

It’s my website so I get to say …

In case, like me, you can’t make it to San Diego. Here is a snippet of Midway:

BARKER

Step right up, folks. Don’t let the opportunity pass you by. More dazzling than a thousand supernovae. More mysterious than a train whistle riding soft and low through a humid August night. More powerful than a secret.

(ENTER TOURISTS)

Well, folks, just in time, just in time. The siren song of this attraction draws you, I see.

TOURIST ONE

We were looking for a cash machine.

TOURIST TWO

And maybe someplace to get a quick lunch. Can you recommend anything?

BARKER

You don’t want to eat before you come in here. No, friend. It could overwhelm your system.

TOURIST TWO

I don’t want to go in there. I’m just looking for, I don’t know, maybe a nice tuna melt.

BARKER

You’d rather have a tuna melt than a transformational experience?

TOURIST TWO

Or a turkey club. I’m not picky.

TOURIST ONE

Now hold on. Let’s hear what he has to stay.

BARKER

Thank you, friend. There are some sights so breathtaking that they never leave us. The awe. The rapture. We lose ourselves. We become more ourselves.

TOURIST ONE

Wow.

TOURIST TWO

I don’t have the slightest idea what he’s talking about.

TOURIST ONE

Neither do I, but it sounds amazing.

Great stuff

Justice is what love looks like in public. As usual, Cornel West speaks the truth, beautifully.
